Out of all the advice that I could give to someone about webdesign, I think there is one piece of advice I would not want to miss giving out.
NETWORK!!
No website will get to any level of success without utilizing your networks (even if its online networking). Networking is the easiest task, all you really need to do is talk to people. Get involved in online forums and discussion boards and just begin to talk with people, check out their websites and make comments on them.
I was able to network myself into several job opportunities when I was only about 16 years old to New York City (half way across the nation) designing websites for New York Dance Companies (in all honesty, the least likely spot I though I would be designing websites for).
It has its benefits, and its so easy!
